It’s about friendships and being faced with challenges in the world of Arilon, the magical world Arthur finds himself in. It’s about a young person finding their bravery and dealing with everything life can throw at them. The book is set in World War 2 and Arthur is sent to ‘safety’ in the countryside only to find himself dealing with witches and terrible creatures and going on adventures he never expected.
It’s the hook to get us into the book and hopefully makes us read to the end!Īrthur Ness and the Secret of Waterwhistle is a fantastic adventure book which is about a boy who is afraid of life, is never brave and doesn’t believe he is special. This book draws the reader straight in… first line… Arthur Ness ran… immediately I wanted to know… Who was he? Where was he running to? Was something chasing him? I believe a good storyteller always asks questions of the reader. Sometimes it’s because I want an ‘easier’ read which still has a quality story and well-rounded characters but it flows easily and isn’t as long as general fiction books.
I never used to read YA books but more and more over the years I’m finding myself drawn to them for various reasons.
